How To Store Ni-MH Motorola 4508 Two Way Radio Battery?

  1. Keep motorola 4508 battery in a cool and dry storage area. Refrigeration is recommended but freezers should be avoided. When refrigerated, the 4508 battery should be placed in a plastic bag to protect against condensation.
  2. Do not fully charge lithium and nickel-based batteries before storage. Keep them partially charged and apply a full charge before use. Store lithium-ion at about 40% state-of-charge (3.75-3.80V/cell open terminal). Lead-acid batteries must be stored fully charged.
  3. Do not store lithium-ion fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes before storage. Self-discharge on a depleted 4508 motorola two way radio battery may cause the protection circuit to trip, preventing a recharge.
  4. Do not stockpile li-ion batteries; avoid buying dated stock, even if offered at a reduced price. Observe the manufacturing date, if available.
  5. Never leave a nickel-based battery sitting on a charger for more than a few days. Prolonged trickle charge causes crystalline formation (memory).
  6. Always store a lead acid battery in full-charge condition. Observe the open terminal voltage and recharge the 4508 two way radio battery every 6 months or as recommended by the manufacturer.

How Accurate is Two Way Radio Battery Quick Testing?

  • The secret of two way radio battery quick testing lies, to a large extent, in understanding how the batteries is being loaded. Two Way Radio Batteries loads vary from short current bursts for a mobile phone using the GSM protocol, to long and fluctuating loads on notebook computers, and to intermittent heavy loads for power tools.
  • Because of these differences in loads, a battery for a digital mobile phone should be tested primarily for low impedance to assure a clean delivery of the current bursts, whereas a battery for a laptop should be examined mainly for the bulk in energy reserve. Ultra-low impedance is of less importance here. A battery for a power tool, on the other hand, needs both ¡ª low impedance and good power reserve.
  • Some quick testers simulate the equipment load and observe the voltage signature of the two way radio battery under these conditions. The readings are compared with the reference settings, which are stored in the tester. The resulting discrepancies are calculated against the anticipated or ideal settings and displayed as the SoH readings.
  • The first step in obtaining quick test readings is measuring the battery¡¯s internal resistance, often referred to as impedance. Internal resistance measurements take only a few seconds to complete and provide a reasonably accurate indication of the battery¡¯s condition, especially if a reference reading from a good motorola 4508 two way radio batteries is available for comparison.
